Description
Teams of two students will match geographic features and scientific phenomena with the appropriate location or region from around the world.
Number of Participants / Approximate Time
Up to 2 / 45 minutes
Outside Materials
Participants may bring only pencils to the event.
The Competition
Teams will be given geographic feature or scientific phenomenon and will select from a list the correct location or locations for the item.
Geographic Locations
1. Within the state, answers may include major cities and major regions (in Alabama: Tennessee River Valley, Gulf Coast, etc.)
2. Within the United States, answers may include specific states, top 50 metropolitan areas, and major regions (i.e. Great Plains, Pacific Northwest).
3. Within North America, answers may include countries or major regions (i.e. Canadian Rockies, Latin America).
4. Outside of North America, answers may include continents, oceans, and hemispheres.
Timing
Students will have 45 minutes to complete the written test. Time is not a scoring
factor.
Scoring
The team with the most correct responses will be declared the winner.
Ties will be broken with pre-determined tie-breaker questions.
